Taking it to the Streets

Over Father's Day weekend alone, 106 people were shot in Chicago. There is so much hopelessness. But our GO Partner Matt Kearney believes that Jesus gives hope and can lead our communities in the changes we need. That belief is what propels Matt to take bold steps into the violence-torn city of Chicago. Matt writes:

"Dr. Price, a Street Pastor, has an incredible ministry of ministering to gunshot victims and families after a shooting occurs. He has asked for my assistance as a Street Chaplain.

Street Chaplains are Christians with counseling training taking the love of Jesus to the streets by praying, counseling, sharing Jesus, and referring resources to families and first responders in the communities.

I started Street Chaplains, a ministry of TransformNation/On The Go Ministries, about a year ago and I sense that God has ordained this ministry for such a time as this.

Please Pray
Right now, I need local volunteers who can make themselves available to be trained and minister as a Street Chaplain and financial resources to grow this ministry. The question God has led me to ask is, "Where are the brokenhearted and the suffering?" We've ministered at food pantries, bus stops, the courthouse, and neighborhoods that struggle with poverty and crime. We want to do more of this. My prayer is that instead of violence, abuse, and addiction happening that God would bring revival to people bringing peace, healing, and freedom through our ministry.

Over the past month, I have slowly transitioned back into street ministry. Once a week, I partner with a local church food pantry to pray with and encourage those in need as they waited in their cars. It's heartbreaking to hear the hardships and hopelessness people have endured. Over the course of three weeks, 5 people made first time decisions to follow Jesus and many others have been blessed through our conversations. At this time (July 1), the courthouse has not opened up, but we hope it will soon. We were doing local outreach at the Lake County Courthouse and had seen many come to know the Lord.

Pray for our protection, against violence in Chicago, and that people would experience the loving presence of God in powerful ways. If you're interested in volunteering some of your time as a Street Chaplain, please email me. Finally, please consider making monthly, quarterly or annual donations so we can grow our team and ministry resources to see revival happen in the Chicagoland!

On mission for Jesus with you,
Matt Kearney
