I am a Middle School Leader because I have always enjoyed working with Middle School students! They are at such an amazing time in their development. I love watching them grow and change during the three years of Middle School. It is such a key time in their lives. I love showing them how much Jesus loves them and that their value should always come from God and His love. The best part of my role as a leader is developing relationships with the students and watching them really start to take on their faith as their own. I have been serving as Middle School Leader for nearly 10 years. I love to read, travel and spend time outdoors with my family.

We began volunteering because Tom and I were blessed by Sydney’s Middle School experience for three years, now with Caleb entering Middle School, I felt it was time for me to be a blessing! The best part of being a Middle School Leader is getting to know the students and seeing them interact with each other! I love seeing them grow closer to Jesus and encourage each other! We began working with students in 2019. We started with the retreat that summer and enjoyed it so much that we decided to become leaders. I love spending time watching my children play soccer and basketball, swimming, planting flowers, playing with our puppy, and spending time with my husband of twenty years.

I decided to volunteer on a Middle School Sunday when I felt God’s love for this group of young people and felt compelled to be involved. The best part of serving is getting to know the students, small groups, talking, working on projects, praying, games, bus rides, and retreats. This is my 6th year serving this ministry. When I’m not working I like to watch Create TV and cooking shows. I like to be in nature and feeding and watching the birds & squirrels. I have been getting into Audio Books on YouTube. I enjoy spending time with my nieces & nephews.

I serve because I see a need and SO much potential in each young lady and man. If I can encourage, listen, and come alongside just one young adult, who wouldn’t want to be part of the impact that has?! It’s an added bonus that I’m a big kid and I can use them as an excuse to play:) The best part of serving is when the “light bulb goes on” for each young lady/man. Each one is at their own level in their relationship with Christ but it’s a moving forward progress that’s the best! I’ve been serving two years at New Covenant and 5+ years in the past. When I’m not working I love to spend time with my family.

I have been a Middle School Leader since the fall of 2020. I love that I am able to make genuine connections with middle school students. I have a unique opportunity to meet the students right where they are in their walk with Christ. These kids are struggling through the same things we all did as preteens and teenagers, and it is my mission to come alongside them in love and kindness, to speak the truth of the gospel into this awkward, frustrating, and sometimes scary time in their lives. My spare time is spent with my family. We have three children and they keep us busy at home. One of our favorite activities is family game night. We also love to spend time outside, going for walks, playing basketball in the driveway, spending time with neighbors in the backyard. I also run two businesses out of our home while the kids are in school.

I decided to be a Middle School Leader because I had been helping with elementary kids and got to know them really well...and they were moving up to Middle School. I think I relate to that age because I’m such “high energy”. The best part of being a leader is just being with the kids, being a good friend to them and getting to go watch their sporting events… to show them support. I have been serving as a leader for 14 years. When I’m not at work, I like to spend my time watching sports on TV or going to sporting events.

When I first became a Middle School Leader, back in 2014, I was asked pretty much out of the blue, so I decided to give it a try and found that I love ministering to this age group. As a leader, I love being able to talk about current issues the youth might be facing at school or home and then, pointing them to what the Bible says about them. There are so many new cultural challenges our youth face, and I enjoy being able to help navigate them through the times. When I’m not working, I enjoy playing board and video games as well as assembling and painting military models. I also like to play music in the Hard Rock/Metal music genre on the keyboard.

I began serving in middle school in 2020. I volunteered as a leader because I know from my own experience how valuable it is to have someone to look up to and talk to as a middle schooler. My favorite part of serving middle schoolers is hearing them ask questions and learn more about their faith! When I’m not working or studying nursing with Purdue Global, I love to spend time with my family and be outdoors!

I began volunteering when my oldest child was entering middle school. I thought that would be a good time to get involved in the Middle School ministry. I volunteer as a Middle School Leader because I was also a leader for five years in Minnesota. It has been one of the best decisions of my life. When I moved back to Iowa, it was a priority to find a church with a strong Middle School ministry. The best part of being a leader is that I love listening to what’s going on in the students' lives and building relationships with them. These students have helped me grow as a Christian and as a man of God. I have been serving since 2018. When I’m not working, I like to read Twitter, watch sports and 80’s movies. I also like to work out, golf, ski, go to movies and go to coffee shops. I love Wednesday nights during the school year!

Julie comes from the small town of New London, Iowa, with a whopping 46 students in her graduating class. Sports were a key part of Julie’s high school life - basketball, volleyball, and softball. She continued playing basketball at Mount Mercy University, right here in Cedar Rapids, where she met her husband Justin. Julie has served as a Middle School Leader since 2010. She said, “I love how middle school students are a beautiful combination of kid and adult. They still have childlike energy and zeal but are beginning to think deeper and find their niche. I love watching the transformation process that happens both physically and spiritually. Many students really make their faith their own and it is a blessing to watch it happen.” Julie is excited to encourage and challenge students to grow in their faith and to make their faith their own. She looks forward to reading God’s Word with them and watch it come to life in their eyes. For fun, you guessed it, Julie, Justin and their daughter Aria, like to be active and play and watch sports together. She also loves to read and walk her dog!

I became a Middle School Leader because I love kids and connecting with them and walking alongside of kids as they are maturing through middle school. Middle School can be a difficult time and being able to listen and share some of my experiences is a great way to connect with them. The best part of my role is watching the kids make their faith their own and maturing in their relationship with Christ. I also love doing various activities and discussions with them. I have been serving around 10 years and when I’m not working, I love to be outdoors and enjoy various sports and activities.

I started volunteering when my child was just becoming a Middle School student, and I wanted to stay involved with him. However, I’ve found that I love being part of the lives of middle school students - there’s nowhere else I’d rather be serving! I really enjoy connecting with students who might not be as connected to others. I began serving in the fall of 2019 - and what a fun, strange time that has been! I love to spend my time building and creating things with wood and fun new technologies.

I began volunteering because I love working with kids and seeing God move in them and watching their growth throughout the year. The best part of being a leader for me is building relationships with all the kids and getting to be a part of their lives. This is my first year as a Middle School Leader, but I have been serving at some level in the church since freshman year of High School. I like to watch and play sports, as well as hang out with my friends. I also like to go to movies and concerts.

I became a Middle School Leader in the fall of 2019 when I saw the impact the Middle School program had on our daughter and I wanted a way to give back to the church and be involved in the lives of the young people in our congregation. The best part of being a Middle School Leader is getting to know the youth in Middle School on a more personal level. It’s also great to develop relationships with the other leaders and sponsors in Middle School and High School. When I'm not working, I love to spend time with my family.
