Happy New Year!
I love the new year. I love new beginnings. I enjoy thinking about what this year will look like for me personally, as well as our family. And maybe you're the same.
For many, the new year will be a quest to better health and fitness. Many will resolve to make changes in the areas of finances. Scores of you will make resolutions in relationships—possibly with your spouse, kids, or even God. That’s wonderful.
That's why I’m excited to kick off the new year with a message series called Resolved. In this series, we’ll be looking at wisdom from the book of Proverbs. Resolved reminds us that God wants something great for His people besides healthy bodies, fiscal responsibility, and thriving relationships. God also wants His people to be wise. God gave us a book to instill wisdom.
As we’ll tease out in the series, God’s wisdom functions both as an anchor and a sail. Anchors are great at grounding the vessel. It keeps the boat from drifting. God delights at giving wisdom that grounds us. It’s a wisdom that’s meant to keep up from drifting. No matter how hard the wind blows or the cultural currents are moving, God gives us an anchor to hold us firm and keep us from drifting into destruction and harm.
Yet God also gives us wisdom that functions as a sail. Sails push a ship forward. Sails help bring significant movement. It can take us to new places. God’s wisdom doesn’t simply hold us firm and keep us from drifting. God’s wisdom helps bring movement so that we can take new ground and see His greatness and worth in other areas of life.
Let’s seek God’s wisdom first and foremost in 2022. I have a feeling if we collectively pursue this, we will not be disappointed.
