Young Family Network:
Creating Connection for Parents

Nate and Johanna Hofmann are the parents of two young sons and have been active participants at New Covenant for several years. But even still, they felt a bit disconnected from other parents in similar life stages. Like a lot of families at NCBC, the Hofmanns longed for connection.

“There are so many families we pass in the hallway on Sundays, but we don’t have a chance to connect,” explained Nate. “Sundays can be hectic. We are wrangling kids and diaper bags and just hoping to make it to the Worship Service before the second song starts! We want deeper connections with young families but Sunday mornings are a tough time to find it.”

This desire for connection also resonated with the young families in the Hofmann’s small group. It was there the idea for the Young Family Network was born.

Working with Groups Pastor Ryan Eckhoff, the group brainstormed ways to create an environment where meaningful connections could be made, where men and women could pursue and practice together and connect deeper with NCBC. They envisioned the network was best suited for families with children in kindergarten and younger, but families with kids of any age could participate as well.

And now, their vision is a reality. The first Young Family Network event is set for Sunday, February 4, 3:00-5:00 PM in NCBC’s High School Room and the Foundry.

This free event offers a mix-and-mingle concept. Moms enjoy some kid-free time to connect first while the dads tend to the kids, then the roles swap so dads get their turn, too. This format ensures both parents have the opportunity to visit with others and establish their own connections within the group. Single parents need community, too, and are encouraged to participate in the event. Conversational prompts are available for those who need a little assistance breaking the ice.

Your kids will have a blast—making new friends, jumping in the bounce house, enjoying an assortment of activities, and having some snacks.

We’re inspired by the Hofmanns and their small group, for seeing a need and taking the initiative to bring parents together in this way. Their example shows us just what it looks like to Pursue + Practice.
