Prayer: What we know vs What we do

I know that prayer is simple. I know that prayer is important. I know it’s sustaining and life-giving. I understand the extravagance and the intimacy of it. I also know it’s powerful. I know these things. Do I live these things? Do I live as if my life …my day…my next step depends on this communication with my creator? Do I fully believe God cares about the details of my day, that I can go to Him with every step and expect an answer?

Often I go through my day acting like every decision is mine and God has no interest in my trip to the grocery store or if I stop at Starbucks. It’s not true! God is deeply relational and is continually drawing us closer to Himself. He would love nothing more than to have us walk through our day in complete dependence on Him for everything.

I cannot understand how God can be intimately invested in the details of my life and the lives of others all at the same time. I limit Him in this area because it’s not something I see anywhere else. No one else can do that. Since I can’t understand it I often don’t believe it.

This week I don’t have any tools, activities, or suggestions for you and your families. This week I want us to encourage each other in this prayer journey. Do you live like prayer is what you believe it to be? How do you stay reminded of that? What does this look like in your home? How do you teach this need for dependency to your kids? Share with us! Join our conversation on Facebook. Post your thoughts, struggles, and helpful things you do to walk in dependence on God so we can share in this journey together!
