Pastor Jay has often used the turn of phrase, "We give to what we're thankful for, and we give to what breaks our heart."
Never is that more true than during the Christmas season – a time of special generosity, a time when we joyfully give to people and organizations doing the Lord's work around the globe and here at home. For Christmas 2021, New Covenant Bible Church will again partner with The Zambia Project as the recipient of our church family’s year-end giving.
We are excited about the continuing momentum for Christ in Zambia. Matt Mackie, Head of Operations at The Zambia Project, recently shared with us some of the successes that God has brought about through the generosity of His people:
- 22 churches were planted in 2021. The Zambia Project’s vision is to establish a life-giving church within walking distance of every person in the Western Province and to see all villages impacted by the Gospel and uplifted through a strong Christian Community. Planting 22 new churches in the past year is a significant step toward meeting this goal.
- Access to clean water changes everything. In Zambia, three out of five children die before their fifth birthday, largely because of lack of access to clean water. A $4,000 water well installed in Zambia serves approximately 1,000 villagers, providing clean, safe drinking water within a 1-2 minute walk, where previously it required a 12-18 hour walk. We love this video from The Zambia Project depicting the pure joy that clean water can bring to a community. Praise God for clean water!
- The work of Bible translation continues. Imagine if you’d never before held a Bible in your hands. Imagine if the language you spoke had never before been translated into a written alphabet. That’s what many of the Mongu people have experienced – until now. Bible translators are working to bring God’s word to life – literally – in the Mongu people's mother tongue.
- Hope is in the air(waves). In January 2022, The Zambia Project plans to launch Hope FM, a radio station that will reach 60,000 people in the Western Province and beyond with the good news of Christ. Matt explains that this radio station alone "will have massive impact in unreached areas. Generations who've never heard the gospel before, now will."
Want to know more about the work of The Zambia Project and how you can help? Join us in person or tune in online on Sunday, December 5, at both the 9:00 and 10:30 AM services. We'll have a special video presentation from Matt Mackie who will share more specifically about what New Covenant's involvement and generosity means to the people of Zambia. Matt was hoping to share with us in person that day, but new COVID-19 travel restrictions require him to stay in Zambia at this time. Please keep the people of Zambia in your prayers, not only for their health and safety, but also that they may continue to be richly blessed with clean water, thriving new churches, and access to Bibles in their native tongue.
